Preparing files for mixing
Section titled “Preparing files for mixing”1. Render every track correctly
Section titled “1. Render every track correctly”Render every track and virtual instrument as one continuous audio file so that all files start at the exact same point. This allows the files to be imported directly into the mixing session and aligned from zero.
Test the export in a new empty project before sending the files.
If the drums are not a finished loop, send each drum element as a separate file, such as kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, cymbals, and overheads.
2. Remove effects and processing
Section titled “2. Remove effects and processing”Remove effects and processing before exporting unless they are an essential part of the sound. This includes EQ, compression, reverb, delay, chorus, and similar tools.
If you are unsure whether an effect should stay, send both the dry version and the effect return as separate clearly named files.
3. Clean the tracks
Section titled “3. Clean the tracks”Do not send anything you do not want in the final mix. Listen through every track alone and remove noise, clicks, accidental sounds, and unused material.
If cleanup has to be done during mixing, it is billed separately.
4. Name files clearly
Section titled “4. Name files clearly”If a file name does not explain what the track is, time is wasted on sorting instead of mixing. Clear names keep the process faster.
5. Keep the original bit depth and sample rate
Section titled “5. Keep the original bit depth and sample rate”Render each track at the same sample rate used in the original project. Do not change the sample rate during export.
6. Stereo and mono tracks
Section titled “6. Stereo and mono tracks”Stereo tracks must be exported as interleaved stereo files. Mono tracks must be exported as mono files.
